Pastor’s Corner: THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD (Lk.9:28-36)

Jesus’ transfiguration on the mountaintop shows us that He is indeed the Messiah, God’s beloved Son. This reading also teaches us about discipleship. We feel blessed because what is shown to Jesus’ closest friends is also revealed to us. This passage calls us to transfigure our lives this Lent so as to live more fully as disciples of Jesus. How do we do this?

Listen to Jesus – after Jesus transfigured, a voice is heard from the heavens: “This is my chosen Son; listen to Him. We are reminded to make time in our busy lives for silence. What is Jesus saying to us this Lenten season?

Change our Hearts – after experiencing the miracle of the Transfiguration, the apostles were forever changed. We, too, are changed by hearing the powerful story of Jesus, Moses and Elijah appearing together as a sign of God’s heavenly kingdom. How has Christ’s transfiguration changed me?

Go and Serve – while Peter yearns to stay on the mountaintop with the prophets and Jesus, the miraculous vision fades and they must return to daily life. While it is tempting to stay in ecstasy with Jesus, we are called to share our faith in the routine of our daily life. How are we called to serve this Lent?

God Bless! Fr. Elmer
